My job at BYU OneStop Student Services participated in our annual Missionary Week. We received a 'White book', our managers were our 'Mission Presidents', we were encouraged to dress in church clothing all week, go to bed early and rise early, only partake of media that invites the spirit, and most importantly share the gospel any chance we got! The purpose of this week was to prepare us for the coming holidays as most of us will be traveling home. The holidays are a special time of year. People are more willing to open up their hearts to others. This is a perfect opportunity for those of us who have the blessing of the truth to share it with those who are willing to listen. To us, it may not seem like we make a difference, but I believe that great things come in small packages. Our lives are defined by moments of impact. We may never know the real impact we may have on another person, but it's the little things that make a difference in the end.
We have been studying the book of Mosiah in the Book of Mormon class and have been talking a lot about Abinadi. This week has been perfect timing for this story to fit in my life. Abinadi was burned at the stake for preaching the word of God and he never knew, while in his mortal life, that he made a difference. He was not alive to see Alma escape from the wicked priests and King Noah to build one of the strongest nations of the church in the Book of Mormon. The same can apply to our lives, we may never know the difference we may make is someone's life, but I do know one thing, if we don't say anything and follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, they will not have the choice of whether to let it effect them or not.
As you can see in the picture, I am also wearing my necklace that I share with my best friend and sister, Katie. The necklace says 'always sisters' and on the back side, 'forever friends'. Katie has the heart that fits into my necklace. As she is in Orlando serving as a full time missionary in Orlando, she has been very encouraging an enthusiastic about getting members involved in missionary work. I want to make her proud and I want to make my Heavenly Father proud. No one is more beautiful in the eyes of God than those that spread the word. During this holiday season, it is my goal to be receptive to the promptings of the spirit to spread this message of cheer to those hearts that are ready and open...because if we don't spread the good news of truth and light through the world, who else will?
