Our 1 Year Anniversary

A few weekends ago, Jonny and I celebrated our first anniversary. It is so hard to believe that one year has already gone by since that happy, happy day. Jonny was so sweet and put together an entire day full of events that he insisted on being a surprise.

The morning started off with some pancakes for breakfast (Jonny's favorite). Then we headed out to Orem in our swimming suits to go Slide the City! The slide was supposed to have opened at 9:00 am... we got there around 10:30am.... and the slide wasn't even set up yet. We decided to wait around for the slide to be set up. 2 HOURS LATER, we finally went down the slide. We had a triple-rider pass where we could go down 3 times. But because it was now 12:30 and we had a cute 4 year old birthday party to be to, we only went down once. Luckily our one ride down was a successful one, unlike many others who had the slide collapse on them... We told the volunteers about our situation in not being able to use our full pass and they were kind enough to give us a full refund.

We then headed over to the Smith's home to stop in to tell our cute little nephew, Jace, happy birthday. We weren't able to stay long, but we were glad we were there to sing happy birthday and watch him blow out the candles! Going back through my photos, I don't have any pictures of the party except for this adorable happy Madi.

Then Jonny told me I needed to pack up my suitcase for over-night and we headed down to St. George! The drive down (as always) consisted of blasting a mix of broadway music, One Direction and Taylor Swift... and of course singing at the top of our lungs!

When we got all settled in, Jonny took me out to dinner at his favorite place in St. George, The Pizza Factory. (For some reason, The Pizza Factory in St. George is so much better than anywhere else!) We of course ordered a Pina Colada because we had a Pina Colada for basically every single meal while we were on our honeymoon in Cancun.

After dinner, Jonny started driving and I had no idea where we were going. Then all of a sudden I recognized the red hills we were driving towards... we were going to Tuachan! Jonny had gotten us tickets to go see the Hunchback of Notre Dame, which he knew I wanted to see really badly! We got to the theater, caught a few Pokemon while we waited... and then the director came on stage. As Tuachan is an outdoor theater, he brought our attention to the big storm clouds that were rolling in and asked us to wait patiently for the storm to pass before we started. We found a seat under cover and watched huge raindrops pound down for about an hour. We enjoyed each other's company and catching more Pokemon. ;) Then they finally announced that the show was cancelled. We were rained out!

Being our anniversary, and spending the whole day thinking of how great the last year was, it did not shake me in the slightest. Honestly, I was just so grateful and felt so lucky that Jonny had put so much effort into planning a fun-filled and celebratory day for the two of us. It was his gesture and being able to spend time with just the two of us that mattered the most to me.

However, I did feel so bad for Jonny. It's hard when you are the one that made the plans and put a lot of effort into it, to see it all go south. Starting with Slide the City not working the way we planned and then driving down to St. George to have the show get rained out. I knew he was frustrated that it didn't work out the way he had hoped, but we were able to move forward and make the most out of the rest of the evening!

We went back to the Marigold home and spent a bit of time watching the beautiful summer storm. I love summer storms! The rain felt so good in the heat of southern Utah and the lightning was extraordinary to watch! After the storm passed, we went into the house and pulled out our one-year-old cake. I was amazed to see the lace decals still in place and although you could tell it had been saran wrapped, it looked pretty good stilll!

We ceremoniously sliced it and Jonny asked me, "Now the question is... Are you going to be a Stuart or a Kirkham tonight?" Not totally understanding what he was asking me, I of course answered, "Stuart!!" So rather than grabbing regular plates and silverware out of the cupboard, he grabbed two paper plates and plastic forks. So just like true Stuarts we ate with paper goods. :) But, the cake eating didn't last long. We both took one bite and looked at each other, asking, "Are you going to finish that?" And we both shook our head no. Although it looked pretty and it wasn't dry... the cake just simply tasted a year old! So we just threw the rest right into the trash. But it was a fun tradition! :)

Then it neared closer to midnight on July 30.. and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was to be released on Harry Potter/J.K. Rowling's birthday... July 31. So naturally, being the Harry Potter fans we are, we went to the book opening at Barnes and Noble. They had a bunch of games and some raffles. It was a lot of fun and of course we went home with our brand new Harry Potter book!!

We both got sorted into houses. Here is Jonny whispering "Not Slytherin... Not Slytherin.." hahaha we were both sorted into Gryffindor. I was stoked about it, but Jonny wished he'd gotten sorted into his house.. Ravenclaw.

And Jonny being Sirius Black....

The next day we packed up and headed back up to Provo. Jonny was kind enough to drive the entire way while I read and finished the new Harry Potter book on the way home! Jonny was then able to finish the book later that night, so we both read it on the famous Harry Potter day! :)

The past year with Jonny has not been perfect, but it has been better than I ever could have imagined. Our love has grown so much deeper as we both learned each other's imperfections and weaknesses and then chose to love each other despite them. My love for Jonny grows every single day. He gives me the strength and encouragement I need when I'm having a bad day, he makes me giddy every time I return home from work and he still gives me those butterflies when he kisses me.

Thank you for an incredible anniversary, and more importantly, thank you for giving me the gift of the most amazing year of my entire life! I love you to the moon and back Jonny!
